Tessenderlo Chemie Ham
Production of potassium sulphate fertilisers, animal feed phosphates, sulphuric acid, CaTS and KTS.
Overview
Three interlinked production units are located at the Ham production plant.
In the phosphate unit, dicalcium, monocalcium and mixed calcium phosphates for animal feed is produced. The production process uses hydrochloric acid, a by-product of inorganic sulphates, to break down natural mineral phosphates. The sulphate unit manufactures high quality potassium sulphates, an ideal fertiliser for sensitive crops such as flowers, fruit, vegetables and tobacco. The sulphuric acid unit produces sulphuric acid and also generates some 15 Megawatt of electricity. The Ham facility also produces calcium thiosulphate and potassium thiosulphate for the European market.
The Ham production plant is located along the Albert Canal and functions as a logistical platform. Extensive use is being made of water transport. The Ham plant is the largest inland harbour in Flanders. Raw materials such as sulphur, rock phosphate, potassium chloride as well as end products are transported this way.
