Can you help us?!  We are looking for an experienced Category Buyer who can continue to keep our customer experience front and centre.  Due to a recent retirement and upcoming maternity cover we have a permanent, full time role based out of Longtown, Carlisle.  Applicants who would consider hybrid working and could be in Longtown 3 days a week would also be considered.

We want to hear from you if you have proven previous success in a buying and/or category buyer role.  Can you confidently:

• Build strong relationships with our supplier base?
• Monitor supplier performance and develop action plans to improve performance where necessary?
• Negotiate with suppliers focusing on cost, value and quality?
• Ensure product availability at our 26 branches across the UK?
• Work with all JDP departments to implement category strategies?
• Learn and understand our market using external data and gaining insight from working closely with our sales and marketing teams?  You need to understand what might impact the future availability and costs of our products and work with the Category Manager to build strategies around this information.
• Demonstrate commercial awareness of the impact your role and department has on the business in terms of cost price, market selling prices and margin expectations?

If you can answer yes to these questions and can also demonstrate the following personal attributes we would love to talk to you:

• An excellent communicator – internally & externally with all stakeholders
• Confident & successful negotiator, influencer and strategist
• Highly organised and be able to take ownership of your own work activities
• Direct industry experience is not essential but would obviously be an advantage.  However, if you can bring purchasing and category skills we can teach you our products.
• IT literate including SAP and Excel.

The role will include some travel in the UK to engage with our suppliers.
