New Forest in Rodeheide, Belgium: Planting Started.

Wednesday, November 26, 2025

On November 26, Tessenderlo Group began planting a new forest of 12 hectares in Rodeheide (Tessenderlo-Ham, Belgium). This initiative is part of the permit requirement for the project of Tessenderlo Development Services NV (TDS), the planned second Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (900 MW) at the Schoonhees industrial site. While no concrete steps are currently planned toward a second plant, we intend to keep the permit in place so construction can proceed if future capacity needs arise to support the energy transition. In the meantime, we are fulfilling the permit condition to complete forest compensation within two years of the permit being granted.
About the reforestation project
The project includes a 12 hectare forest near Rodeheide, complemented by smaller plots in Tessenderlo-Ham. In total, more than 48,000 trees will be planted, including native species that support biodiversity and create a resilient ecosystem. The new forest will connect to existing green areas and is designed to integrate seamlessly into the surroundings, taking into account future plans for a cycling highway. For the first few years, Tessenderlo Group will actively monitor and maintain the forest to ensure healthy growth. This green initiative offers ecological benefits and creates a pleasant environment for the local community.

Tessenderlo Group is pleased to realize this reforestation project in Tessenderlo-Ham, contributing to a stronger and greener local environment.
